Maven Security Assists Pros vs. Joes CTF
Maven Security will once again be helping out with the PvJ (Pros Vs Joes) CTF at Bsides Delaware 2016. Earlier in the year our own @gi0cann, a longtime member of the Pros Vs Joes CTF team, helped extend the PvJ CTF environment for use at the Bsides Las Vegas conference and again at BSides DC this year. This same environment will now be available to play on at Bsides Delaware this coming weekend, and @gi0cann will be on site helping run the event.
For those not familiar with PvJ CTF it’s a two part CTF usually split over two days. During the first half teams of “Joes” are given highly vulnerable networks that they have to defend against a team of professional penetration testers aka the “Pros”. One day to the format changes, the Joes are no longer just defending they are now also attacking the other team. Each team will be getting assistance from one or more of the Pros that they were defending against on day one.
Teams are scored based on service uptime, completion of business tasks, system compromise, and data integrity. The team that manages to minimize system down time, and compromise will come out on top. The goal of the PvJ CTF is to teach participants how to deal with compromise while maintaining system uptime. PvJ is not about beating the attackers, but beating the other teams of defenders.
It is always a great time helping out with Pros V Joes CTF. We are looking forward to having another amazing Pros V Joes CTF, and seeing everyone at Bsides Delaware 2019.
